AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING TITLE 19 ENTITLED ZONING OF THE
ELGIN MUNICIPAL CODE, 1976, AS AMENDED
WHEREAS, written application has been made to amend provisions of the zoning
ordinance to permit storage yards as an accessory use to any permitted use or special use
in the B-4, M-I and M-2 districts; and
WHEREAS, the Elgin Planning Committee held a public hearing concerning the
proposed amendment after due notice in the manner provided by law; and
WHEREAS, the Elgin Planning Committee has submitted its written findings and
recommendation that the requested amendment be granted; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Elgin, Illinois, concurs in the findings
and recommendations of the Planning Committee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ELGIN, ILLINOIS:
Section I. That Section 19.04.603 of Chapter 19.04 of the Elgin Municipal Code,
1976, as amended, be and is hereby amended to read as follows:
"1 9.04.604
'Storage yard' means an area of land used for the storage of vehicles,
equipment, and materials necessary for and accessory to the principal use.
The storage yard shall be constructed and screened in accordance with
Chapter 19.44. Storage yards shall be allowed as an accessory use to any
permitted use or special use in the B-4, M-1, and M-2 zoning districts. At
no time shall storage yards be used as junkyards or auto wrecking yards."
Section 2. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its
passage in the manner provided by law.
