AN ORDINANCE
PERMITTING AMBER LIGHTS ON POLICE DEPARTMENT VEHICLES
WHEREAS, the Police Department of the City of Elgin desires to use
patrol vehicle warning light systems that incorporate an amber light into
the regular, standard warning light configuration of red and white lights;
and
WHEREAS, amber lights will afford a higher degree of visibility and
safety for officers during periods of darkness or poor lighting conditions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ELGIN, ILLINOIS:
Section 1. That Section 11.52.080 of Chapter 11.52 of the Elgin
Municipal Code, as amended, is hereby amended by adding the following:
"Amber oscillating, rotating or flashing lights, whether
lighted or unlighted are permitted upon vehicles owned and
operated by the Police Department of the City of Elgin."
Section 2. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect
upon its passage.
