AN ORDINANCE
TO PROVIDE THAT MEMBERS OF THE ELGIN FAIR HOUSING BOARD SHALL BE
APPOINTED FROM THE ELGIN HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS:
Section 1. That Subsection (a) of Section 7-1406 of Article XIV of
Chapter 7 of the City Code of Elgin, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"7-1406.
(a) Creation and Appointment. A board known as the Elgin
Fair Housing Board is hereby created for the City of Elgin. The
Board shall consist of five (5) members appointed by the City
Council. Appointments shall be made from among the appointed
members of the Human Relations Commission. Each member, so
appointed, shall serve for a term of three (3) years, except
that the terms of office of the initial appointment shall be
two members for three years; two members for two years and one
member for one year. All members of the Board shall continue
in such capacity until their successor has been duly appointed
and is acting. Any members appointed to fill a vacancy occurring
prior to the expiration of the term for which his predecessor was
appointed shall serve for the remainder of such term. The Mayor
and City Manager shall serve as ex-officio members of this Board."
Section 2. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with
the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 3. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage in the manner provided by law and shall be published in
pamphlet form by order of the City Council.
