AN ORDINANCE
elk AMENDING ARTICLE ONE OF CHAPTER 19 OF THE CITY CODE OF ELGIN ,
ENTITLED "BUILDING CODE" TO ADOPT THE 1970 BASIC BUILDING CODE
RECOMMENDED BY THE BUILDING OFFICIALS CONFERENCE OF AMERICA,
INC .
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN ,
ILLINOIS :
Section 1 . That Article I of Chapter 19 of the City
Code of Elgin , Illinois , be , and the same is amended in the
following manner , to-wit :
a . By repealing Section 19-102 of said Article I in its
present form and inserting in lieu thereof, the following :
19-102 . Adoption of Basic Building Code .
There is hereby adopted by the City of Elgin for the
purpose of establishing rules and regulations for the
construction , alteration , removal , demolition , equipment ,
use and occupancy , location and maintenance of buildings
and structures , including permits and inspections , those
certain building codes known as "The Basic Building Code
recommended by the Building Officials Conference of America ,
Inc . , " being particularly the Fifth Addition published in
1970 , and the Annual 1970 Supplement thereto , and the
"Suburban Official ' s Conference Building Code , " January , 1970
addition , as they are recommended , save and except such
portions as are hereinafter deleted , modified or amended ,
of which not less than three ( 3) copies have been , and now
are filed in the Office of the City Clerk of the City of Elgin ,
and the same are hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as
if set out at length herein , and from the date on which this
ordinance shall take effect , the provisions thereof shall be
controlling in the construction of all buildings and
structures therein contained within the corporate limits of
the City of Elgin .
b . By amending Section 19-103 of said Article I in the
following manner :
1 . By deleting sub-paragraph ( d) of said Section
19-103 in its entirety;
2 . By inserting "Section 127 . 1" in lieu of "Section 128 . 1"
in sub-paragraph ( g) of said Section 19-103 .
Section 2 . That all ordinances or parts thereof in
conflict herewith be , and the same hereby are , repealed and
of no further force and effect.
Section 3 . That this ordinance shall be in full force
and effect from and after its passage as provided by law
and shall be published in pamphlet form by authority of the
City Council .
