AN ORDINANCE
TO AMEND THE TRAFFIC CONTROL ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF ELGIN
RELATING TO SPEED RESTRICTIONS .
WHEREAS , the Traffic Committee and the Police Department
of the City of Elgin have made a thorough investigation based
on recognized traffic engineering principles pertaining to
the speed limits established on the following streets in
the City of Elgin , Illinois , to-wit:
Sleepy Hollow Road , McLean Boulevard , Riverside
Drive ,
and ,
WHEREAS , as a result of said investigation , it has
been determined that the maximum speed limits prescribed in
Section 49 of a " Uniform Act Regulating Traffic on Highways "
and prescribed in "The Illinois Vehicle Code" , effective July 1 ,
1970, as set forth in the Illinois Revised Statutes for 1969
are greater than is reasonable or safe with respect to
the conditions found to exist along certain designated portions
of said streets .
NOW , THEREFORE , BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ELGIN , ILLINOIS .
Section 1 . That Article V of Chapter 17 of the City
Code of Elgin , Illinois be , and it hereby is , amended in
the following manner , to-wit :
( a) By adding to the streets designated under sub-paragraph
( a) of Section 17-503 establishing a maximum speed limit of
20 miles per hour , the following additional street :
"Riverside Drive in its entirety"
( b ) By adding the following additional sub-paragraphs
under Section 17-503 , to-wit:
" ( aaa) That there is hereby established an absolute maximum
speed limit for vehicles of the first division of 35 miles per
hour along and upon the following streets and highways in
the City of Elgin , to-wit :
Sleepy Hollow Road , between Big Timber Road and the
Northwest Tollway .
( aaaa) That there is hereby established an absolute
maximum speed limit for vehicles of the first division of
45 miles per hour along and upon the following streets and
"' highways in the City of Elgin , to-wit:
McLean Boulevard-between Bowes Road and the Southerly
boundaries , extended , of Spartan Meadows Golf Course . "

Section 2 . That all ordinances or parts thereof in
conflict herewith be , and the same hereby are , repealed and
of no further force and effect .
Section 3 . That this ordinance shall be effective from
and after its passage as provided by law , and shall be
published in pamphlet form by authority of the City Council .
