RESOLUTION
DESIGNATING SPORTS COMPLEX SOCCER FIELDS AS THE
RICHARD L. VERBIC SOCCER FIELDS
WHEREAS, Richard L. Verbic served as a Councilman for the
City of Elgin from May 2 , 1973 to April 23 , 1975 ; and
WHEREAS, Richard L. Verbic served as Mayor of the City of
Elgin from April 23 , 1975 to April 22 , 1987 ; and
WHEREAS, Richard L. Verbic as a public officer and as a
private citizen was particularly interested and was active in
programs for the city' s youth; and
WHEREAS, in 1979 , under the leadership of Mayor
Richard L. Verbic, the City of Elgin acquired title from the
State of Illinois Department of Mental Health and
Developmental. Disabilities to a 400-acre parcel of land, which
was formerly part of the grounds of the Elgin Mental Health
Center; and
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Mayor Richard L. Verbic,
the city developed on the aforesaid property a sports complex,
of which soccer fields are an integral part, for the use and
benefit of the city ' s youth; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to recognize the public
service of Richard L. Verbic and his commitment to the city' s
youth.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF ELGIN,
ILLINOIS, that the new soccer fields at the city' s sports
complex be known as the Richard L. Verbic Soccer Fields .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable plaque and signage
be placed at the sports complex soccer fields identifying such
fields as the Richard L. Verbic Soccer Fields .
