RESOLUTION
AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF AN AGREEMENT WITH
THE ILLINOIS STATE TOLLWAY AUTHORITY
FOR PLACEMENT OF SIGNS IN THE CITY OF ELGIN'S JURISDICTION
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN,ILLINOIS,that
Sean R. Stegall,City Manager,be and is hereby authorized and directed to execute an agreement on
behalf of the City of Elgin with the Illinois State Tollway authority for placement of signs in the city
of Elgin's jurisdiction, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part hereof by reference.

Trailblazer Sign (M-IT10A)
Application: Trailblazer signs are route marker signs with a directional arrow which guide
motorists in adjoining communities to the Toliway system. The Illinois Toliway Trailblazer
assembly may be used on a road leading to the Tollway or as a route confirmation sign on the
mainline. Color+ Size: The Trailblazer sign shall have a blue background with a white border
and legend. All the elements of the sign shall be contained on one panel. The length will vary
depending on the information in the legend. Legend: The legend should follow MUTCD
standards. When used to guide motorists in adjoining communities to the Tollway system, the
legend shall include TO, cardinal direction, TOLL, interstate shield with two or three digit
number identifying the Tollway's interstate number, and a directional arrow. The cardinal
direction may be removed if the Trailblazer sign is directing the motorist to a full interchange.
When used as a confirmation sign on the mainline, only the cardinal direction, TOLL, and
interstate shield with two or three digit number identifying the Tollway's interstate number are
required. Diagram + Symbols: The Illinois Tollway logo may be used as part of Trailblazer
signs, if used consistently on all signs. Standard MUTCD arrows shall be used on to convey
directional instructions to motorists. Layout: Components of the sign are vertically and aligned
symmetrically about the centerline in the following order from top to bottom: TO, cardinal
direction, TOLL, interstate shield, directional arrow. Placement: Trailblazer signs may be
displayed on a non-toll roadway, a section of Interstate Highway System at the last exit before
entering a toll section, at the interchange or connection with a toll facility, and at other locations
near the toll facility to assist motorists in finding the Tollway entrance. Trailblazer signs may be
located up to 2 miles from the Tollway entrance in urban areas and up to 3 miles in rural areas.
Trailblazer signs may be placed beyond these limits if it is anticipated that a large number of
motorists will use that route to access the Tollway. When used to assist motorists in finding the
Tollway entrance, Trailblazers should be placed between 300-500 feet from the approaching
intersection. Confirmation Trailblazer signs shall be installed 25-200 feet beyond the far
shoulder or curb of the intersecting roadway, unless the Tollway entrance is visible. Trailblazers
serving as route confirmations signs on the mainline shall be located 1000' after the entrance
gore from an interchange. (For the Trailblazer sign illustrations, see page 3-M10A.)
