08-112 Resolution No. 08-112 RESOLUTION APPROVING CHANGE ORDER NO. 2 IN THE CONTRACT WITH ELLIOTT AND WOOD, INC. FOR CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES AT FIRE STATION 7 WHEREAS,the City of Elgin has heretofore entered into a contract with Elliott and Wood, Inc. for construction activities at Fire Station 7; and WHEREAS, it is necessary and desirable to modify the terms of the contract as is described in Change Order No. 2, attached hereto. The original contract amount was$310,500 for site excavation and installa- tion of utilities.A change order in the amount of$57,208.15 was submitted by Elliott and Wood,Inc. for the increased costs associated with additional site engineering and utility work.This amount includes a credit for$2,022 for stone provided by the Concrete Trade Contractor. REASONS FOR CHANGE: Change Order No. 2 is in the best interest of the city and is authorized by law. The necessity for the change was unforeseen at the time the contract was originally executed. The changes contemplated in Change Order No. 2 are germane to the original agreement. SUMMARY OF CHANGES IN CONTRACT AMOUNT: The original contract will be amended as to scope and costs to include the additional site engineering and utility work. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council authorize the execution of Change Order No. 2 in the amount of$57,208.15 to the contract with Elliott and Wood, Inc. for the increase in excavation and site utilities for the construction of Fire Station 7. BACKGROUND Elliott and Wood, Inc. was awarded the bid for the excavation and site utilities for the construction of Fire Station 7. The original contract amount was $310,500 for site excavation and installation of utilities. A change order in the amount of$57,208.15 was submitted by Elliott and Wood, Inc. for the increased costs associated with additional site engineering and utility work. The total budget for this project is $5.4 million with approximately $5 million spent and encumbered to date.
