06-71 Resolution No. 06-71 RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF GETTING TO WORK IN KANE COUNTY WHEREAS, by connecting the workforce to area jobs, transportation is a key factor in creating vibrant, sustainable local economies; and WHEREAS, new job growth has been in commercial and industrial corridors in contiguous or outlying areas not presently served by existing mass transit; and WHEREAS, representatives of local government, business and community-based organizations have identified specific route enhancements to extend transit service to areas of rapid job growth, including the Randall Road Corridor from St. Charles to Algonquin and developing a county-wide subsidized taxi service to broaden transportation coverage; and WHEREAS, there is an opportunity to seek $950,000 in state matching funds for this project; and WHEREAS, these proposed route enhancements would provide access to at least 40% of all jobs on Randall Road and 30%of businesses; and WHEREAS, these proposed services would carry 340,000 new riders annually. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS that the City of Elgin takes a position in support of the Governor and the Illinois General Assembly including $950,000 in matching funds for the "Getting to Work in Kane County" project in the State of Illinois Fiscal 2007 budget and urge the Governor and Illinois lawmakers to make funding of this project a high priority in this and upcoming legislative sessions. s/Ed Schock Ed Schock,Mayor Presented: March 22, 2006 Adopted: March 22, 2006 Vote: Yeas: 7 Nays: 0 Attest: s/Dolonna Mecum Dolonna Mecum, City Clerk
