Dorgan, City Manager gt(449-- AND QUALITY INFRASTRUCTURE John M. Loete, Public Works Directc SUBJECT: Highway Permit with Kane County for Interceptor Sewer on Bowes Road PURPOSE The purpose of this memorandum is to provide the Mayor and members of the City Council with information relative to a highway permit with Kane County with respect to an interceptor sewer crossing of Bowes Road. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council authorize the City Engineer to execute the highway permit with Kane County. BACKGROUND The development of the Far West Area necessitates the extension of public interceptor sewer. To extend sewer to the various developments, an augured crossing of Bowes Road is required. The interceptor sewer is being constructed in accordance with City ordinance and at no cost to the City. Kane County requires a highway permit be obtained due to the occupation of Bowes Road right-of-way. The City must be a co-applicant with the Venture Group that is building the interceptor sewer because we will be the owner and operator after it is complete. A copy of the permit and a location map are attached. COMMUNITY GROUPS/INTERESTED PERSONS CONTACTED John Goddendorf, Kane County Highway Department Ti4NANCIAL IMPACT There is no cost to the City for obtaining this permit. Future maintenance costs will, however, be the responsibility of the City and will impact future operating budgets in the Sewer Maintenance Cost Center. rib* Bowes Rd Interceptor Sewer Crossing February 20, 2004 Page 2 L AL IMPACT one.
