RESOLUTION
AUTHORIZING THE DISPOSAL OF CERTAIN SURPLUS OFFICE FURNITURE
WHEREAS, in the opinion of at least three-fourths of the
corporate authorities of the City of Elgin it is not necessary,
useful, or in the best interests of the City of Elgin, to
retain certain obsolete office furniture consisting of 41
desks, 18 file cabinets, two sets of lockers, two shelving
units, two credenzas and a table now owned by it; and
WHEREAS, the scrap value of the obsolete office furniture
may equal the cost of a dumpster and transportation to Elgin
Salvage Company.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS :
Section 1 . Pursuant to Section 5/11-76-4 of the Illinois
Municipal Code, Illinois Compiled Statutes, Ch. 65, Sec.
5/11-76-4, the City Council finds that the office furniture
consisting of 41 desks, 18 file cabinets, two sets of lockers,
two shelving units, two credenzas and a table now owned by the
City of Elgin is not necessary or useful to the City of Elgin
and the best interest of the City of Elgin will be served by
its disposal .
Section 2 . Pursuant to said Section 5/11-76-4, the City
Manager be and he is hereby authorized and directed to dispose
of the obsolete office furniture now owned by the City of Elgin
by scraping the materials with Elgin Salvage Company.

SUBJECT: Disposal of Surplus City Equipment
PURPOSE
The purpose of this memorandum is to request that the Mayor
and members of the City Council declare certain City equipment
surplus and to authorize the disposal of such property.
BACKGROUND
On March 28, 1998, the Police Department held its annual
bicycle auction. In addition to bicycles, obsolete or surplus
City-owned equipment was also auctioned. Numerous pieces of
obsolete office furniture (41 desks, 18 file cabinets, two
sets of lockers, two shelving units, two credenzas and a
table) failed to receive bids. Since the equipment was not
sold, staff is suggesting the property be disposed of by
scraping the material with Elgin Salvage Co.

None .
FINANCIAL IMPACT
None . The scrap value of the equipment may equal the cost of
a dumpster and transportation to Elgin Salvage Co.
