RESOLUTION
DESIGNATING SPORTS COMPLEX SOCCER FIELDS AS THE
RICHARD L. VERBIC SOCCER FIELDS
WHEREAS, Richard L. Verbic served as a Councilman for the
City of Elgin from May 2, 1973 to April 23, 1975; and
WHEREAS, Richard L. Verbic served as Mayor of the City of
Elgin from April 23, 1975 to April 22, 1987; and
WHEREAS, Richard L. Verbic as a public officer and as a
private citizen was particularly interested and was active in
programs for the city's youth; and
WHEREAS, in 1979, under the leadership of Mayor
Richard L. Verbic, the City of Elgin acquired title from the
State of Illinois Department of Mental Health and
Developmental Disabilities to a 400-acre parcel of land, which
was formerly part of the grounds of the Elgin Mental Health
Center; and
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Mayor Richard L. Verbic,
the city developed on the aforesaid property a sports complex,
of which soccer fields are an integral part, for the use and
benefit of the city' s youth; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to recognize the public
service of Richard L. Verbic and his commitment to the city' s
youth.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF ELGIN,
ILLINOIS, that the new soccer fields at the city' s sports
complex be known as the Richard L. Verbic Soccer Fields .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable plaque and signage
be placed at the sports complex soccer fields identifying such
fields as the Richard L. Verbic Soccer Fields .
