94-207 • Resolution No. 94-207 RESOLUTION APPROVING CHANGE ORDER NO. 4 IN THE CONTRACT WITH CLARK DIETZ, INC. FOR THE NORTHWEST AREA INTERCEPTOR SEWERS WHEREAS, the City of Elgin has heretofore entered into a contract with Clark Dietz, Inc. for the Northwest Area Interceptor Sewers; and WHEREAS, it is necessary and desirable to modify the terms of the contract as is described in Change Order No. 4, attached hereto. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS, that Richard B. REASONS FOR CHANGE: The engineer incurred additional costs due to the reinspection of construction work which was required to be corrected after the initial inspection determined that the original work was defective. An amount equal to this Change Order No.4 has been deducted from payments due the contractor, Szabo Contracting. SUMMARY OF CHANGES IN CONTRACT AMOUNT: The amount of the contract will be revised as follows : ESTIMATED ADDITIONAL COSTS Additional Construction Re-Inspection . Helwig, City Manager SUBJECT: Change Order No.4 with Clark Dietz, Inc. for Construction Engineering Services on the Northwest Interceptor Sewer PURPOSE To provide information to the Mayor and City Council in their consideration of a Change Order No.4 with Clark Dietz, Inc. , for additional construction engineering services on the Big Timber-Tyler Creek Interceptor Sewer. BACKGROUND The City Council awarded an engineering contract to Clark Dietz, Inc. (CDI ) at their June 26, 1991 meeting for the preparaticn Sf plans and specifications, and inspection and construction engineering services for the two interceptor sewer projects in the northwest area of the City. The two projects are the Big Timber-Tyler Creek Interceptor and North Randall Interceptor. During the construction of the Big Timber-Tyler Creek Interceptor Sewer project, it was necessary to reinspect certain portions of the project due to the requirement that the contractor, Szabo Contracting correct work that was originally defective. Under the construction contract terms, the contractor is responsible for the payment of all engineering costs related to the reinspection of corrected work originally determined to be defective. Under Change Order No.7 with Szabo Contracting, item 14, the contractor has provided a credit to the City in the amount of $14,400. , the amount of the reinspection charges. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that City Council approve the Change Order No.4 and authorize the City Manager to execute the Change Order No. 4 in the amount of $14,400. 00.
