RESOLUTION
CHANGING THE NAME OF ADELAIDE AVENUE TO BIG TIMBER COURT
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN,
ILLINOIS, that the public street known as Adelaide Avenue from
State Route 31 to its terminus be and the same is hereby
redesignated and renamed Big Timber Court.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all city signs and maps shall
be altered to read Big Timber Court at the aforesaid places .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby
authorized and directed to give written notice to the election
authorities having jurisdiction in the area in which the
street name is hereby changed and to the post office branch
serving that area by certified or registered mail .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the resolution shall be in
effect thirty days after notice is given to the election
authorities and the post office as provided herein.

SUBJECT: Report on Street Name Change
Adelaide Avenue to Big Timber Court
PURPOSE: To present a report on the proposed street name
change from Adelaide Avenue to Big Timber Court.
BACKGROUND: The City Council originally directed the Traffic
Committee to pursue the subject street name change with the only
owner of property on Adelaide Avenue (one home faces Adelaide
Avenue east of State Street) . There was and is confusion on the
part of drivers northbound on State Street looking for Big
Timber Road. The existing sign is for Adelaide on the near
right with the Big Timber Road sign on the far left for
northbound traffic.
The City Council is considering the acquisition of this property
at the September 22, 1993 meeting. Based on this acquisition
the City will be the only owner of property on Adelaide Avenue.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The cost to install new street signs will
be paid by the State of Illinois as their obligation to provide
street name signs within their right-of-way.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council
direct the staff to prepare the necessary resolution changing
the name of Adelaide Avenue to Big Timber Court after the
present owner vacates the premises.

MEMORANDUM

SUBJECT: Recommendation from the Traffic Committee to
change the name of Mason Road to Westfield Drive
PURPOSE: To provide the Mayor and Council with information
to consider changing the name of Mason Road to Westfield Drive.
BACKGROUND: Mason Road is an Elgin Township road. Westfield
Drive was installed by the developer of the existing Westfield
Business Park. Mason Road originally curved to the east and
connected the road to Randall Road south of the Tollway. This
elmk configuragion has Mason Road, southbound, stop at a "T"
intersection with Mason Road westbound to Randall Road. The
configuration is confusing. A sketch of the intersection is
attached for your consideration.
The Traffic Committee agrees with the County that the name of
the short section of Mason Road from Westfield Business Park to
Randall Road should be changed to Westfield Drive.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: The estimated cost for the new street name
signs including labor and material is $200 .
RECOMMENDATION: To help avoid confusion it is recommended
that the City Council authorize changing the name of Mason Road
to Westfield Drive and direct the staff to prepare the necessary
ordinance.
