HomeMy WebLinkAboutS17-06 fir'"' Ordinance No. S 17-06 AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE SALARY OF THE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS WHEREAS, Ordinance No. S14-98, passed on October 28, 1998, fixed the salary of the Mayor at Seven Thousand Five Hundred and no/100 Dollars($7,500.00)per year,and the salary for Councilmen at Five Thousand and no/100 Dollars ($5,000.00)per year; and WHEREAS,the City Council has determined that it is appropriate that the compensation for such offices should be increased. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS: Section 1. That effective with the commencement of the term for the office of Mayor of the City of Elgin which begins in 2007, the annual salary for the office of Mayor shall be Fifteen Thousand Hundred and no/100 Dollars($15,000). Commencing with the term for the office of the Mayor of the City of Elgin which begins in 2011 and continuing with the beginning of each four-year term thereafter,such annual salary shall be increased by a percentage amount equal to the total of the previous four published yearly percentage increases,compounded annually,in the U.S.Department of Labor,Bureau of Statistics Consumer Price Index(CPI-U,all items,Urban Consumers,Chicago Area, 1982-1984=100). elk Section 2. That effective with the commencement of the terms for the City Council offices currently held by Councilman David Kaptain, Councilman Thomas Sandor and Councilwoman Brenda Rodgers which begin in 2007, the annual salary for such City Council offices shall be Ten Thousand and no/100 Dollars($10,000). Commencing with the terms for such City Council offices which begin in 2011 and continuing with the beginning of each four(4) year term thereafter, such annual salary for such City Council offices shall be increased by a percentage amount equal to the total of the previous four published yearly percentage increases, compounded annually, in the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index (CPI-U, all items, Urban Consumers, Chicago Area, 1982-1984=100). Section 3. That effective with the commencement of the terms for the City Council offices currently held by Councilmen Juan Figueroa,Robert Gilliam and John Walters which begin in 2009, the annual salary for such City Council offices shall be Ten Thousand and No/100 Dollars($10,000). Commencing with the terms for such City Council offices which begin in 2013 and continuing with the beginning of each four(4)year term thereafter,such annual salary for such City Council offices shall be increased by a percentage amount equal to the total of the previous four published yearly percentage increases, compounded annually, in the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index (CPI-U, all items, Urban Consumers, Chicago Area, 1982- 1984=100). Section 4. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance be and are hereby repealed. Section 5. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its passage.
