HomeMy WebLinkAboutG37-03 Ordinance No. G37-03 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 3 . 61 OF THE ELGIN MUNICIPAL CODE, ENTITLED "ELECTRICAL COMMITTEE" BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS : Section 1 . That Chapter 3 . 61 entitled "Electrical Commit- tee" of the Elgin Municipal Code, 1976, as amended, be and is hereby further amended to read as follows : "3 . 61 . 010 : ESTABLISHED: There is hereby established an electrical committee for the city pursuant to the city' s home rule authority. The electrical com- mittee hereby established shall be separate and distinct and su- persede the electrical commission authorized by section 11-37-2 of the Illinois municipal code . In case of any conflict of any provision of this chapter with any provision of the statutory provisions for electrical commissions, the provisions of this chapter shall control . r 3 . 61 . 020 : MEMBERSHIP; TERMS : A. The electrical committee shall be composed of five (5) vot- ing members . B. The voting members of the electrical committee shall be comprised of three (3) electrical contractors registered within the city and one (1) representative employed or oth- erwise affiliated with an electricity supply company, and each such member shall be appointed by the city council . The chief of the fire department, or his or her designee, shall also serve on the electrical committee as a voting member. The director of the department of code administra- tion and development services, or his or her designee, shall be an ex officio member of the electrical committee with no voting rights . C. Each appointed member shall be appointed for a three (3) year term or until his or her successor shall have been ap- pointed by the city council . 3 . 61 . 030 : ORGANIZATION: A. The electrical committee shall meet at least annually dur- ing the month of February and shall elect one of its mem- bers as chairperson for a term of one year subject to re- election B. The electrical committee shall adopt rules governing its operation, subject to approval by the city council . 3 . 61 . 040 : POWERS AND DUTIES : A. The electrical committee, after its review, shall recommend to the building commission additions or deletions in the current or proposed electrical code to ensure safe, effi- cient and practical standards, specifications and products are adopted for the installation, alteration and use of electrical equipment in the city. B. The electrical committee shall administer and review the completed application and examination of applicants for registration as an electrical contractor as provided by this code and shall recommend whether any such applicant' s eft registration will be granted. " Section 2 . That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance be and are hereby repealed. Section 3 .
