AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING CHAPTER 3 . 60 OF THE ELGIN MUNICIPAL CODE,
1976 , AS AMENDED, ENTITLED "BUILDING COMMISSION"
WHEREAS, the City of Elgin is a home rule unit pursuant to
Article VII of the Illinois Constitution; and
WHEREAS, the City of Elgin, as a home rule unit, may
exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its
government and affairs; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Elgin has
determined that it is necessary and desirable to amend the
appointment procedure for the appointment of members to the
building commission; and
WHEREAS, the appointment of members to the city' s building
commission pertains to the government and affairs of the City
of Elgin .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS :
Section 1 . That Section 3 . 60 . 020 of the Elgin Municipal
fo'` Code, 1976 , as amended, entitled "Membership--Organization--
Appointments--Terms" be and is hereby amended by amending
Subparagraph A thereof to read as follows :
"A. The commission shall consist of seven
members to be appointed by the city council . Each
member so appointed shall serve for three years and
may be reappointed. The terms of appointees
hereunder shall be staggered in such a manner so that
the term of two members shall be for three years, two
members for two years and three members for one year.
Vacancies occurring in the commission shall be filled
by appointment to serve for the unexpired term.
Following the initial terms as heretofore provided,
the term of each member shall be for three years . "
Section 2 . That all ordinances or parts thereof in
conflict with this ordinance be and are hereby repealed.
Section 3 . That this ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage and publication in the manner
provided by law.
