HomeMy WebLinkAboutG85-80 Ordinance No. G85-80 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE ASSESSED VALUATION OF CERTAIN RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES IN HISTORIC DISTRICTS OR LANDMARK AREAS WHEREAS, Public Act 81-1501 provides that certain real property located in a national historic district or a municipal landmark area and used for single family residential purposes and constructed prior to July 1, 1939 for which the zoning classification and use has remained the same shall have an assessed valuation equal to the assessed valuation established for such property in 1979 until such time as the zoning classification or use of such property changes or improvements which would increase the assessed valuation of such property are added; and WHEREAS, Public Act 81-1501 further provides that cities, villages, incorporated towns or home rule municipalities may provide that said Act shall not apply to and shall not effect the assessment of any assessing official of and the extension of taxes levied by all taxing districts against all real property within its corporate limits; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Elgin finds and determines that it is in the best interest of the City of Elgin to provide that said Act shall not apply within the City of Elgin. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS: _ Section 1. That Section 44.1 of Public Act 81-1501 (Ch. 120, par 525.1) shall not apply to and shall not effect the assessment by any assessing official of and the extension of taxes levied by all taxing districts against all real property within the corporate limits of the City of Elgin. Section 2. That the City Clerk be and is hereby authorized and directed to cause a certified copy of this ordinance to be filed with the clerks of the County of Kane and the County of Cook. Section 3. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage in the manner provided by law. s/ Richard L. Verbic Richard L.
