HomeMy WebLinkAboutG49-79 Ordinance No. G49-79 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR ADJUSTMENT OF WATER BILLS IN CERTAIN CASES BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS: Section 1. That Chapter 14.04 of the Elgin Municipal Code, 1976, as amended, is hereby amended by amending Section 14.04.260 to read as follows: "14.04.260 Leakage No deduction shall be made on account of leaking after water has passed through a meter except as is hereinafter provided. In the event that meter registration for a single family residence amounts to more than six months the average bi-monthly usage for the preceding twelve months and inspec- tion reveals that the increase in meter registration was caused by a leak as a result of defective plumbing or plumbing fixtures or such other conditions as are beyond the control of the customer occurring prior to customer's knowledge of the defect, the Water Director and Finance Director, in the exercise of reasonable discretion, may abate or refund an amount equal to 75 percent of the excess over an amount equal to six months the amount of the average bi-monthly bill; provided, however, that no rebate or refund shall be allowed unless and until the defect is repaired."
