AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING ARTICLE IV. ENTITLED "TT-HE ADOPTION AND ADMINISTRATION
OF POSITION CLASSIFICATION AND PAY PLANS" OF CHAPTER 6
OF THE CITY CODE (ORDINANCE NO. S-569, PASSED DECEMBER 23, 1955)
AS PERTAINS TO THE COMPENSATION PLAN AND TO THE SCHEDULE OF STANDARD
SALARY RANGES AND THE OFFICIAL SALARY PLAN
OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS, AS AMENDED
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Elgin has heretofore ratified
and approved negotiated understandings reached by the City of Elgin's Wage
and Benefit Committee and various Employee Relations Committees; and
WHEREAS, the City of Elgin has agreed to implement a new schedule for
certain employees as described herein.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN,
ILLINOIS:
Section 1. That there is hereby added to and forming a part of Article IV
of Chapter 6 of the City Code (Ordinance No. S-569, passed December 23, 1955) ,
as amended, the following amended salary schedule:
Bus Driver
0 to 6 Months 6 -- 12 Months 12 Months E Over
$ 5.63 $ 5.94 $ 6.25
Lead Driver
Certain drivers may be designated as a Lead Driver and will be com-
pensated at five percent (5%) over the above applicable rate for the
assignment,
Section 2. That effective July 2, 1978 the schedule to be increased
one percent (1%).
Section 3. That effective July 2, 1978 there shall be an additional salary
increase of the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers--
Chicago, All Items (1967=100) (herein called "CPI") for the month of May, 1978
(as made available in June, 1978) has increased over the preceding CPI for the
month of May, 1977 as follows: the schedule to be adjusted for each full one-half
of one percent (1/2%) increase in the CPI between May, 1977 and May, 1978 above
six percent (6%) , there shall be a salary increase calculated by multiplying
each full one-half percent (1/2%) by .8.
Section 4. That effective December 31, 1978 the schedule to be increased
five and one-half percent (5-1/2%) .
Section 5. That effective July 1, 1979 the schedule to be increased one
percent (1%) .
Section 6. That effective July 1, 1979 there shall be an additional
salary increase of the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and
Clerical Workers--Chicago, All Items (1967=100) (herein called "CPI) for
the month of May, 1979 (as made available in June, 1979) has increased over
the preceding CPI for the month of May, 1978 as follows: the schedule to
be adjusted for each full one-half of one percent (1/2%) increase in the
CPI between May, 1978 and May, 1979, above six and one-half percent (6-1/2%) ,
there shall be a salary increase calculated by multiplying each full one-half
percent (1/2%) by .8.
Section 7, Employees currently on the active payroll as of February 12,
1978, shall receive a retroactive payment computed on the difference between
the amended schedule rates and the rates prior to ratification for each hour
actually worked between January 1, 1978 and February 11, 1978.
Section 8. That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to
prepare an appropriate schedule reflecting the foregoing amendments to the
salary ranges of the City of Elgin.
Section 9, That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with
the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 10. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect as of
February 12, 1978.
