HomeMy WebLinkAboutG14-77 Ordinance No. G14-77 eft AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE COMPENSATION FOR ROBERT L. BAIRD, POLICE CHIEF WHEREAS, when initially hired the Chief of Police did participate in both the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund and Social Security system; and WHEREAS, by a recent ruling of the Social Security Administration, Police and Fire Chiefs in Illinois participating in the I.M.R.F. are excluded from participation in Social Security; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City of Elgin to maintain a similar level of retirement benefits as enjoyed by other department heads participating in the I.M.R.F. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS: Section 1. Compensation for Robert L. Baird, Chief of Police, City of Elgin: A. That effective January 2, 1977 compensation paid to the Chief of Police shall consist of the salary authorized by the Official Salary Plan adopted by the City Council plus 5.85 percent of earnings base subject to the Social eft Security tax which was the former employer contribution by the City of Elgin. B. That said 5.85 percent of the Social Security earnings base representing the former employer contributions shall be sent to the I.C.M.A. Retirement Corporation for the account of Robert L. Baird. C. That said contribution to the I.C.M.A. Retirement Corporation shall remain in effect while Robert L. Baird is Chief of Police of the City of Elgin; while he also contributes the former employee Social Security tax contribution to the I.C.M.A. Retirement Corporation, or until eligibility in Social Security is re-established. D. That the Finance Director be directed to provide for the implementation of said retirement fund contributions. Section 2. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed. Section 3. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage in the manner provided by law. elow- s/ Richard L Verbic Richard L.
