HomeMy WebLinkAboutG10-76 Ordinance No. G10-76 AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE USE OF FLASHING AMBER LIGHTS ON CERTAIN PRIVATE VEHICLES WHEREAS, Section 12-215 of Chapter 951 of the Illinois Revised Statutes, 1973, as amended, prohibits oscillating, rotating, or flashing lights, whether lighted or unlighted, except on certain prescribed vehicles; and WHEREAS, said section authorizes the use of such lights as may be authorized by local authorities; and WHEREAS, Valley Security Patrol, Inc. , a private security organization, has requested that authorization be granted for the use of said amber lights as provided by the state statutes; and WHEREAS, it appears to be in the public interest to grant such approval. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS: Section 1. That Section 17-1608 of Chapter 17 of the Elgin City Code, as amended, is hereby amended by adding the following paragraph: "Amber oscillating, rotating, or flashing lights, whether lighted or unlighted, are permitted upon vehicles owned and operated by private security organizations and clearly marked as such; such lights shall be in use only while vehicles are engaged in funeral escort, traffic and parking control upon private property, as requested by the Police Department in cases of accident or catastrophe and for use in facilitating night helicopter landings at hospitals." Section 2. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed. Section 3.
