AN ORDINANCE
eft. AMENDING ARTICLE IV. ENTITLED "THE ADOPTION AND ADMINISTRATION
OF POSITION CLASSIFICATION AND PAY PLANS" OF CHAPTER 6
OF THE CITY CODE (ORDINANCE NO. S-569, PASSED DECEMBER 23, 1955)
AS PERTAINS TO THE COMPENSATION PLAN AND TO THE SCHEDULE OF STANDARD
SALARY RANGES AND THE OFFICIAL SALARY PLAN
OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS AS AMENDED BY
ORDINANCES G-1640 AND G-1648
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Elgin has heretofore imple-
mented the negotiated understandings reached by the City of Elgin's Wage
and Benefit Committee and various Employee Relations Committees in the
format Ordinances No. G-1640 and G-1648; and
WHEREAS, the City of Elgin desires to implement a new schedule for
certain employees not included in the negotiated understandings to make
certain revisions in the aforesaid ordinances.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ELGIN, ILLINOIS:
Section 1 . That there is hereby added to and forming a part of Arti-
cle IV of Chapter 6 of the City Code (Ordinance No. S-569, passed
December 23, 1955) , as amended, the following amended schedule of salary
ranges; for the purpose of the ordinance ranges are hereby redesignated
as follows:
r'' 'A' ranges now referred to as 'C' ranges
'B' ranges now referred to as '0' ranges
'C' ranges now referred to as ' F' ranges
'D' ranges now referred to as 'M' ranges
'E' ranges now referred to as 'P' ranges

Section 2. That Schedule II attached to and forming a part of Article IV
of Chapter 6 of the City Code (Ordinance No. S-569, passed December 23, 1955) ,
as amended, be and is hereby amended so that the following position classifica-
tions and accompanying monthly pay ranges read as follows:

Section 3. That all sections of Ordinance No. G-1640 and No. G-1648 shall
remain in effect in regards to salary and benefit changes for January 1 , 1975 and
July 1 , 1975.

• Section 4. That effective January 1 , 1975 and July 1 , 1975 'M' and 'MF'
salary ranges shall be adjusted for increases in the cost of living based upon
. the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Chicago Region,
Cost of Living Index for the periods May, 1974 through October 1974 (for 1/01/75
adjustment) and November 1974 through April , 1975 (for 7/01/75 adjustment).
Said ranges shall be increased in an amount equal to 1t per hour for every .5
of a point increase in the cost of living; for the purpose of said increase it
shall be based upon a forty (40) hour work week. (for 'MF' ranges on a fifty-six
(56) hour work week)
Section 5. That effective July 1 , 1975, 'M' and 'MF' salary ranges shall be
increased by 2.5 per cent and that the following salary ranges shall also receive
a competitive wage adjustment at one-half step: Police Chief, Public Works
Director, Community Development Director and Assistant Corporation Counsel.
Section 6. That Section 11 of Ordinance No. G-1648, establishing a benefit
program for certain employees is hereby amended by deleting the positions of
Planning Director and Chief Plant Operator/Chemist and adding the positions of
Recreation Director, Deputy Police Chief, Water Maintenance Superintendent, and
Garage Superintendent.
Section 7. That Section 12 of Ordinance No. G-1648, establishing a benefit
program for certain employees is hereby amended by deleting the position of
Assistant Parks and Recreation Director and adding the positions of Assistant
Recreation Director and Chief Engineering Inspector.
Section 8. That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to prepare
eft an appropriate schedule reflecting the foregoing amendments to the salary ranges
of the City of Elgin.
Section 9. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the
provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 10. That the ordinance shall be effective from and after January 1 ,
1975.
