HomeMy WebLinkAboutG4-74 Ordinance No. G4-74 AN ORDINANCE EXEMPTING THE POSITION OF MAINTENANCEMAN FROM COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION. WHEREAS, by Ordinance No. G-1640 establishing a position classifi- cation and pay plan the position of maintenanceman has been established; and WHEREAS, it is impractical to require that said position be subject to competitive examination; and WHEREAS, the City of Elgin is a home rule unit entitled to exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs not otherwise provided; and WHEREAS, the statutes of the State of Illinois require that appoint- ments to positions classified within the Civil Service of a city be filled by competitive examination. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS: Section 1. That statutory requirements for filling of Civil Service positions by competitive examination are hereby declared to be of no force and effect in so far as said examination refers to maintenanceman of the City of Elgin, Illinois. Section 2. That the position of maintenanceman within the City of Elgin, Illinois shall be filled by appointment of the Civil Service Commission of the City of Elgin without competitive examination. Section 3. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed. Section 4. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage in the manner provided by law and shall be published in pamphlet form by authority of the City Council.
