AN ORDINANCE
AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF CERTAIN REAL ESTATE FOR PARKS
AND RECREATIONAL PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the City has been informed by the General Services
Administration of the United States Government that its application dated
March 23, 1967, to purchase the property known as the Former U. S.
Post Office, Elgin, Illinois, GSA Disposal No. G-Ill. -498A for use as a
public park and recreational area under Public Law 616, 80th Congress,
has been approved, and
WHEREAS, the said General Services Administration has estab-
lished the fair market value of the property at $117, 000. 00 and has
advised the City of Elgin that they are authorized to convey the property
to the City of Elgin, conditioned upon its use and maintenance for public
park and recreational use at 50% of the appraised fair market value, or
$58, 500. 00, and
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest that additional_ public park
and open space areas be secured and maintained in the downtown area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS:
Section 1. That the City of Elgin purchase from the General Services
Administration of the United States_: of America, for the sum of $58, 500. 00 ,
the following described real estate, to-wit:
Lots 4 and 5 in Block 9 of J. T. Gifford's Plat of Elgin, sit-
uated in the City of Elgin, County of Kane and State of Illinois.
Subject to the condition that this property will be used and maintained for
public park and recreational use.
Section 2. That the City Treasurer issue a voucher payable to the
order of the General Services Administration of the United States of
America in the amount of $58, 50Q. 00, provided that a good and sufficient
Deed conveying title to said premises to the City of Elgin, a municipal
corporation, is prepared and delivered to the said City of Elgin.
Section 3. That this Ordinance shall become effective from and
after its passage, as provided by law, and shall be published in pamphlet
form by authority of the City Council.
