AN ORDINANCE
AUTHORIZING A MODIFICATION OF THE SIDEWALK ORDINANCE AS
IT PERTAINS TO CERTAIN PORTIONS OF HIGH, OAK, ERIE, WASH-
BURN, CARR, ADAMS AND MARGUERITE STREETS, AND ILLINOIS,
CLEVELAND, LAVOIE, NORTH MELROSE AND SOUTH COMMON-
WEALTH AVENUES IN THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS.
WHEREAS, various petitions have been filed with the City of Elgin
requesting authorization for the modification of the Sidewalk Ordinance on
various streets in the City of Elgin, Illinois, and
WHEREAS, pursuant to authority given by resolution of the City
Council, the City Manager has reviewed the individual requests and has
recommended, in view of the general terrain of the various areas and the
location of existing sidewalks thereon, such modifications are desirable.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS:
Section 1. That a curb line sidewalk of approved specifications be,
and such hereby is, authorized to be constructed upon and along the follow-
ing streets in the City of Elgin, Illinois, to-wit:
rk Illinois Avenue on the East side thereof between Jay Street
and Hastings Street.
High Street on the South side thereof between Vincent Place -
and Hamilton Avenue.
Illinois Avenue on the West side thereof between Villa Street
and Sherman Avenue.
Oak Street on the South side thereof between Wilcox Avenue
and Vandalia Street.
Cleveland Avenue on the West side thereof between Jay Street
and Kramer Avenue.
Erie Street on the South side thereof between Edison Street and
Alfred Street.
Lavoie Avenue on the East side thereof between Jay Street and
Hastings Street.
Section 2. That a sidewalk of approved specifications be, and such
hereby is authorized to be constructed upon, and along, the South side of
Washburn Street between Commonwealth Avenue and Marguerite Street, in

such a manner that the Northerly edge of said sidewalk shall lie at a point
five and one-half feet distance from the curb line of said Washburn Street.
Section 3. That a sidewalk of approved specifications be, and such
hereby is, authorized to be constructed upon, and along, the West side of
Melrose Avenue along the alley South of the lot known as 200 North Melrose
and Lawrence Avenue, in such a manner so that the Easterly edge of said
sidewalk shall lie at a point three feet distance from the curb line of the
said Melrose Avenue.
Section 4. That a sidewalk of approved specifications be, and such
hereby is, authorized to be constructed upon, and along, the North side of
Carr Street between Mallery Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue, in such a
manner so that the Southerly edge of said sidewalk shall lie at a point three
feet distance from the curb line of the said Carr Street.
Section 5. That a sidewalk of approved specifications be, and such
hereby is, authorized to be constructed upon, and along, the North side of
Adams Street along the lot known as 527 Lindberg Court, in such a manner
so that the Southerly edge of said sidewalk shall lie at a point four feet dis-
tance from the curb line of the said Adams, Street.
Section 6. That a sidewalk of approved specifications be, and such
hereby is, authorized to be constructed upon, and along, the West side of
South Commonwealth Avenue between South Street and Morgan Street, in
such a manner so that the Easterly edge of said sidewalk shall lie at a point
five feet distance from the curb line of the said South Commonwealth Avenue.
Section 7. That a sidewalk of approved specifications be, and such
hereby is, authorized to be constructed upon, and along, the East side of
Marguerite Street between Adams Street and Morgan.Street, in such a man-
ner so that the Westerly edge of said sidewalk shall lie at a point two feet
distance from the curb line of the said Marguerite Street.
Section 8. That all ordinances or parts thereof in conflict herewith
be repealed and of no further force and effect.
Section 5. That this ordinance shall be effective from and after its
passage as provided by law and shall be published.in pamphlet form by
authority of the City Council.
