RESOLUTION
ESTABLISHING AN HONORARY STREET NAME OF DEACON MARLENE DAUBERT
FOR GRISWOLD STREET BETWEEN WALNUT AVENUE AND WASHBURN STREET
WHEREAS, a formal application to provide for the establishment of the honorary street
name of Deacon Marlene Daubert for Griswold Street between Walnut Avenue and Washburn
Street was submitted to the City of Elgin, sponsored by City Council Member Tish Powell; and
WHEREAS, Deacon Marlene Daubert has served as an ordained Deacon at Zion Lutheran
Church for the last twenty-three years; and
WHEREAS, Deacon Daubert has served as Zion Lutheran Church's lead administrator, led
the middle school and high school education and youth groups, and organized and led mission
trips to work at an orphanage in Tecate, Mexico and a Habitat for Humanity rebuilding project in
Biloxi, Mississippi to help the area recover from Hurricane Katrina; and
WHEREAS, Deacon Daubert has been part of a staff that has transformed the congregation
into one of the most vibrant and engaged congregations in the city; and
WHEREAS, Deacon Daubert served as a liaison between Zion Lutheran Church and
Lowrie Elementary School, coordinating the church's after-school tutoring and starting twelve
years of Kids Hope mentors at the school; and
WHEREAS, Deacon Daubert has served on the board for PADS, helping it work toward
its current location; and
WHEREAS, Deacon Daubert served as the president of the Elgin Area Branch of the
American Association of University Women(AAUW)during the Covid pandemic and was named
the 2023 Illinois Agent of Change by the AAUW of Illinois — their highest honor — for leading
AAUW Elgin Area to produce innovative, effective activities which brought growth and
movement to the branch and for social and educational empowerment to women and girls in the
community; and
WHEREAS, Deacon Daubert is currently serving on the board of the U-46 Foundation
where she also coordinates the annual mini-grants program for the foundation; and
WHEREAS, Deacon Daubert has been active in the Coalition of Elgin Religious Leaders
and she is currently serving on the Bienvenidos Team for Elgin Cooperative Ministry, a group of
churches and agencies working to protect immigrant rights and to assist immigrants get established
in Elgin; and
WHEREAS, Deacon Marlene Daubert is retiring this July 2026; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and members of the City Council wish to extend the appreciation
and esteem of all Elgin citizens for Deacon Marlene Daubert's outstanding service to her
community; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and members of the City Council have determined that it is
appropriate to formally recognize Deacon Marlene Daubert.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ELGIN, ILLINOIS, that there is hereby established the honorary street name of Deacon Marlene
Daubert Street along Griswold Street, between Walnut Avenue and Washburn Street.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that an honorary street sign shall be placed at the northwest
corner of Washburn Street and Griswold Street, designating Griswold Street, between Walnut
Avenue and Washburn Street, as Deacon Marlene Daubert Street.
