FROM: Richard Helwig, City Manager
SUBJECT: Request for Fire Lane Designation
PURPOSE
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide the Mayor and
City Council with background information concerning a request
by Reverend James Marks for the designation of a fire lane in
a certain location at the Elgin Bethesda Church of God in
Christ at 454 Hickory Street.
111 BACKGROUND
A request has been received from Reverend James Marks to have
a selected area of the Elgin Bethesda Church of God in Christ
property designated as a fire lane.
The church has experienced problems with vehicles parking in
the circular drive located immediately in front of the main
entrance to the building, making ingress and egress of emer-
gency equipment difficult if not impossible at times .
Designation of the fire lane and a signed agreement between
the City and the church will enable the City to enforce on-
street parking regulations on the private street located on
the church property.
Maps indicating the proposed location and proposed agreement
are attached for your reference.
The Police and Fire Departments have reviewed the proposed
location of the fire lane at the church property and find the
designation to be satisfactory.
