HomeMy WebLinkAbout93-60 Resolution No . 93-60 INCOME TAX SURCHARGE RESOLUTION ASKING GOVERNOR EDGAR TO SUPPORT MUNICIPALITIES WHEREAS, the State of Illinois has shared with local governments; municipalities and counties, with needed reve- nues since 1989 with income tax surcharge proceeds; WHEREAS, the temporary income tax surcharge for munici- palities and counties will expire on June 30, 1993 ; WHEREAS, municipalities and counties have tremendous financial needs to directly serve the citizens of Illinois with local programs ; WHEREAS, municipalities and counties have expended the revenues in a conservative, productive manner for their citi- zens ; WHEREAS, the Federal and State government continue to impose unfunded state mandates on local governments; WHEREAS, this revenue is essential to sound municipal and county fiscal health; WHEREAS, Governor Edgar will be delivering the State Budget Address on March 3, 1993; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Municipality of the City of Elgin that this corporate body, a political subdivision of the State, does hereby request that the Chief Executive Offi- cer support and endorse in the 1993 Budget Address the perma- nent extension of the income tax surcharge with the proceeds dedicated to municipalities and counties . s/ George VanDeVoorde George VanDeVoorde, Mayor Presented: February 24 , 1993 Adopted: February 24 , 1993 Omnibus Vote: Yeas 7 Nays 0 Recorded: Attest: s/ Dolonna Mecum Dolonna Mecum, City Clerk
