Agenda Item No. 4411J v� „. 34,• p�� April 16 , 1992 MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor and Members of City Council FROM: City Manager SUBJECT: 1992 Radio Equipment PURPOSE: The purpose of this memorandum is to obtain Council authorization to purchase our 1992 radio equipment from Motorola Inc. BACKGROUND: Included in the 1992 Budget is over $35,000 for a variety of radio equipment (mobiles, portables, remotes, etc. ) . Although much of the equipment is for our Police and Fire Depart- ments, there is equipment for various divisions of Public Works, Parks, Building Maintenance, and Water. Because of the City' s substantial investment in our Public Safe- ty Communications System (currently valued over $1, 170,000) , staff continues to believe that it is in the City's best inter- ests to continue our long standing policy of negotiating for the purchase of Motorola radio equipment in order to ensure compati- bility and to facilitate both operational use and maintenance of the system. Negotiations have been completed, and the results of our negotia- tions are detailed in Motorola' s proposal (Attachment A) . It is noted that: 1 . The total negotiated amount for the equipment reflects a 24 .2% discount from Motorola's current NET USER Prices, which are defined as their normal list prices (Attachment B) . 2 . Several of those items have become available through the State of Illinois Joint Purchasing Program, and a number of the mobiles and portable ( Items A-C, E, G-I , and L) are being purchased at prices equal to or lower than last year.
