You may not be familiar with this event, but it has been held historically in late May on the City streets and State Highways . A resolution similar to the resolution attached is necessary to close the required State routes for this event. Please see that this resolution is considered and returned to me at your earliest opportunity. The State will not allow the closing of State routes without this resolution , so timing is important. The event is sponsored by the Parks & Recreation Department. It is scheduled for Monday, May 27 , 1991 . I have attached a copy of last years resolution. I need an original "Certificate of City Clerk " to submit to IDOT. February 16 , 1990 MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor and Members of the City Council FROM: Larry L. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None RECOMMENDATION: The recommendation is to approve the request to obtain permission from the State to close portions of five (5) state routes. f Efrmn = Memorandum OTI-- (ott March 19 , 1990 MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor and Members of the City Council FROM: Larry Rice, City Manager SUBJECT: 1990 Valley Fox Trot PURPOSE To inform the Mayor and City Council Members of the status of the 13th Annual Valley Fox Trot. BACKGROUND The 13th Annual Valley Fox Trot will be held on Monday, May 28 . The race course and general structure will follow the format previously established. The fees will increase from $8 to $10 until May 7 and $10 to $12 thereafter. First National Bank has once again expressed an interest in sponsoring this event and we have been informed that their Board of Directors has approved the amount of $10 ,000. We have also contacted St. Joseph Hospital, Gatorade, Elgin Medi-Transport, Fox Valley C. B. Sentinels and Sherman Hospital Mended Hearts Club who have committed their support. We will also be contacting several organizations and groups for volunteers and services. Applications will be mailed the first week of April and a marketing and promotion plan set in place. Premiums for the runners and volunteers will be a canvas sport bag coordinated with First National Bank. Specific staff functions have been detailed and appropriately filled . Appropriate City departments have been contacted to assure a smoothly run event. The plaques have been ordered for first, second and third place in each category plus overall fastest time for male and female Elgin residents. The breakdown of runner categories has been expanded. The general breakdown is: 14 and under; 15 - 19, 20 - 24 , 25 - 29 , 30 - 34 , 35 - 39 , 40 - 44 , 45 - 49 , 50 - 54 , 55- 59 , and 60 and over. This year we will be separating the over 60 age group into 60 - 64, 65 - 69 , and 70 plus . The number of runners in this age group increases each year and the skill level varies sufficiently that it makes it appropriate to break the categories down rather than having them all placed in the 60 plus group as in the past. FINANCIAL IMPACT Based on the generous sponsorship of the First National Bank and in conjunction with St. Joseph Hospital, Gatorade, Elgin Medi-Transport, Fox Valley C. B. Sentinels and Sherman Hospital Mended Hearts Club and with the fee charges , the event will break even. SUMMARY The 13th Annual Valley Fox Trot will be run on Monday, May 28, with the co-sponsorship by the First National Bank.
