HomeMy WebLinkAbout21-119 Resolution No. 21-119 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF A CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 AND FINAL WITH TRINE CONSTRUCTION CORPORATION FOR MISCELLANEOUS SEWER PROJECTS 2020 (BID 20-037) WHEREAS,the City of Elgin has heretofore entered into a contract with Trine Construction Corporation for miscellaneous sewer projects 2020 (Bid 20-037); and WHEREAS,it is necessary and desirable to modify the terms of the contract as is described in Change Order No. 1 and Final attached hereto. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS,that pursuant to Elgin Municipal Code Section 5.02.020B(9)the City Council hereby finds that an exception to the requirements of the procurement ordinance is necessary and in the best interest of the city; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS,that Richard G.Kozal,City Manager,be and is hereby authorized and directed to execute Change Order No. 1 and Final, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part hereof by reference. s/David J. Kaptain,Mayor Presented: August 11, 2021 Adopted: August 11, 2021 Omnibus Vote: Yeas: 9 Nays: 0 Attest: s/Kimberly Dewis Kimberly Dewis, City Clerk City of Elgin _change Order ELGIN,ILLINOIS PROJECT#430105 CHANGE ORDER No. 1 and Final CONTRACT: Bid 20-037—Miscellaneous Sewer Projects 2020 SCOPE: One of the sewer projects under the subject contract involved the construction of a deep sanitary sewer installation to bypass the Red Barn Lift Station. During the construction of the deep sewer the contrac- tor encountered significant ground water that required the installation of 6 water wells and full-time pumping through the duration of the construction to ensure that the trench was safe and ensure appropri- ate construction of the sewer line. This change order addresses the cost for these additional de-watering efforts which were not included within the original agreement. REASONS FOR CHANGE: During excavation at the connection manhole for the Red Barn Lift Station location, the water table showed itself approximately 14.0-feet from grade. The contractor was expected to excavate to a proposed depth of approximately 20.0-feet per plan. The project area needed to be de-watered. Six(6)deep wells were dropped 50.0-feet from grade. The pumps and discharge piping were subsequently set up and ran 24/7 for 46.0-calendar days from 1/22/2021 —3/9/202I. The water was able to be controlled and a safe environment was created for the proposed 12-inch PVC sanitary sewer main installation.The pumps were constantly monitored and fueled during operation. The changes provided in this Change Order No. 1 and Final are germane to the original contract as signed and this Change Order No. 1 and Final is in the best interest of the City of Elgin and authorized by law. SUMMARY OF CHANGES IN CONTRACT AMOUNT: Mobilization, installation of(6) deep wells and pumps. Fuel and operating costs to maintain dewatering equipment for 46.0 calendar days. Demobilization. ORIGINAL CONTRACT AMOUNT: $569,360.00 CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 and Final Dewatering TOTAL FOR CHANGE ORDER NO. 1: ADD $ 11,846.69 PREVIOUS CHANGE ORDER(S): Change Order No.N/A $0.00 TOTAL OF PREVIOUS CHANGE ORDERS: ADD $0.00 TOTAL REVISED CONTRACT AMOUNT: $581,206.69 The original amount of the contract with Trine Construction is $569,360.00. Change Order No. 001 and Final totaling $11,846.69 will increase the original contract amount by a total of$11,846.69, that sum representing two and eight hundredths of a percent (2.08%) of the original contract amount. The new contract amount, inclusive of all change orders is$581,206.69.
