Aydt, Personnel Office SUBJECT: Political Activity With the approach of the Municipal elections, employees should be aware of their protections and obligations under the Political Activity provisions of the Rules and Regulations. Attached please find copies of a Notice regarding political activity that should be posted in all work sites to which employees are assigned. Your prompt attention to this matter is appreciated. --- NOTICE --- With the approach of the Municipal elections, City employees are reminded of their protections and obligations during the ensuing weeks. The following provisions are found under Rule IV of the Personnel Rules and Regulations. Section 2. Political Activity. Employees of the City serve all residents equally. The political opinion or affiliation of any resident shall in no way affect the amount or quality of service received from the city. (a) City employees shall not be appointed or retained on the basis of their political activity. City employees shall not be coerced: to take part in political campaigns; to solicit votes; to levy, contribute or solicit funds; or to support the campaign of any candidates for any municipal office. (b) City employees shall not actively advocate or oppose the candidacy of any individual for nomination or election to any municipal office. An employee may participate in political affairs at other levels of government provided such participation does not ad- versely affect their performance as a City employee. Employees are encouraged to exercise their right to vote in municipal elections, but shall not engage in or participate in any other way in any municipal elections.
