HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-96 Resolution No. 04-96 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ADOPTION OF THE KANE COUNTY HAZARDS MITIGATION PLAN WHEREAS,the City of Elgin,Illinois is subject to flooding,tornadoes,winter storms,and other natural hazards that can damage property,close businesses,disrupt traffic,and present a public health and safety hazard; and WHEREAS,the Kane County Natural Hazards Mitigation Planning Committee has prepared a recommended Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan that reviews the City's options to protect people and reduce damage from the hazards; and WHEREAS,the recommended Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan has been widely circulated for review by residents and federal, state and regional agencies and has been supported by those reviewers. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS, that: 1. The Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan is hereby adopted as an official plan of the City of Elgin. 2. The Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan identifies a series of action items. The following action items are hereby assigned to the noted office. The designated person shall ensure that the action item is implemented by the deadline listed in the Mitigation Plan, subject to fiscal and staff time constraints: 1. Building Code Improvements: [Director of Code Administration] 2. Improved Code Enforcement: [Director of Code Administration] 3. Plans and Development Regulations: [Director of Code Administration] 4. Facility Audits: [Director of Code Administration] 5. Retrofitting Incentives: [Director of Public Works] 6. Repetitive Loss Projects: [Economic Development Director] 7. Drainage Maintenance: [Director of Public Works] 8. Urban Forestry: [Director of Parks and Recreation] 9. Flood Threat Recognition: [Director of Public Works] 10. Improved Emergency Response: [Chief of Police] 11. Flood Control Projects: [Director of Public Works] 12. Hazard Mitigation Materials: [Public Information Officer] 13. Outreach Projects: [Public Information Officer] 14. Property Protection References: [Director of Code Administration] 15. Community Rating System: [Director of Public Works] C 3. The Public Works Director is hereby appointed as the City's representative on the Kane County Mitigation Coordinating Committee.
