HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-217 Resolution No. 04-217 RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING AN HONORARY STREET NAME FOR MARIE YEARMAN FOR DEXTER COURT WHEREAS,Marie Yearman was appointed by the Mayor and members of the City Council as the City Clerk of the City of Elgin on July 21, 1975; and WHEREAS,Marie Yearman was a faithful and diligent employee for the City of Elgin and served as the City Clerk until her retirement from such position on May 22, 1990; and WHEREAS,Marie Yearman was appointed to the office of councilman of the City of Elgin by the Mayor and members of the City Council on May 23, 1990; and WHEREAS,Marie Yearman was thereafter elected by the citizens of the City of Elgin to the office of councilman of the City of Elgin in 1991 and was thereafter reelected to the office of councilman for the City of Elgin in 1995, 1999 and 2003; and WHEREAS, Marie Yearman served as a member of the City Council of the City of Elgin until her death on July 16, 2003; and WHEREAS,Marie Yearman was a valued friend to her fellow city employees and officials; and WHEREAS,Marie Yearman was a faithful and diligent employee and official for the City of Elgin and provided outstanding services to the citizens of Elgin; and WHEREAS, Marie Yearman provided countless hours of volunteer services to the community including serving as a volunteer at Provena Saint Joseph Hospital; and WHEREAS, Marie Yearman was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother and a valued friend to many of the citizens of Elgin; and WHEREAS,the Mayor and members of the City Council wish to extend the appreciation and esteem of all Elgin citizens for Marie Yearman's outstanding service to the community; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and members of the City Council have determined that it is appropriate to formally recognize Marie Yearman. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN,ILLINOIS,that the public street known as Dexter Court be and the same is hereby dedicated with the honorary street name of Marie Yearman Court. Hall,Neighborhood Services Committee SUBJECT: Honorary Street Name for Marie Yearman PURPOSE The purpose of this memorandum is to provide the Mayor and members of the City Council with information to dedicate Dexter Court with the honorary street name of Marie Yearman Court. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that Dexter Court be dedicated with the honorary street name Marie Yearman Court per Chapter 13.27 of the Elgin Municipal Code,Honorary Street Names. BACKGROUND A formal application to endorse the dedication of Dexter Court with the honorary street name of Marie Yearman Court was submitted by Council Member Robert Gilliam. Per Chapter 13.27 of the Elgin Municipal Code, Honorary Street Names, the Neighborhood Services Committee reviewed the request at their meeting on Monday, June 14, 2004. The Committee voted unanimously to approve the honorary street name and recommended approval of the project pending review by the Image Advisory Commission. The application was then reviewed and approved by the Image Advisory Commission at their meeting held on Monday, June 28,2004. It is with unanimous approval and support that the members of the NSC and the Image Advisory commission recommend the dedication of Dexter Court with the honorary street name Marie Yearman Court.
