RESOLUTION
SUPPORTING THE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT OF A WESTERN CORRIDOR
EXPRESSWAY
WHEREAS, the Illinois Department of Transportation has
announced a proposal to develop a western corridor expressway also
known as the Prairie Parkway; and
WHEREAS, the proposed Prairie Parkway is intended to enhance
the regional transportation system through the construction of a
limited access expressway connecting Interstate 80 to Interstate
90; and
WHEREAS, as currently proposed the right-of-way Prairie
Parkway project is proceeding in two phases with Phase One
consisting of the southern portion of the project from Interstate
80 to Interstate 88 and with Phase Two consisting of the northern
portion of the project from Interstate 88 to Interstate 90; and
WHEREAS, the Illinois Department of Transportation has begun
efforts to preserve a right-of-way corridor for Phase I of the
Project from Interstate 80 to Interstate 88; however, the City of
Elgin encourages that the planning efforts of the Illinois
Department of Transportation also include at this time preserving a
right-of-way corridor for Phase Two of the project from Interstate
88 to Interstate 90; and
WHEREAS, the City further encourages that the Phase Two
portion of the proposed project between Interstate 88 and
Interstate 90 should utilize a routing along Route 47 north of Lily
Lake in that such an alignment would make use of existing arterial
roadway, reduce land acquisition costs, take advantage of the
existing interchange at Interstate 90 and relieve north and south
traffic concerns already present in the western Elgin and
surrounding areas; and
WHEREAS, the development of the Prairie Parkway, and
specifically the Phase Two portion thereof between Interstate 88
and Interstate 90, will enhance the City of Elgin' s efforts to
develop and grow in the western corridor toward Route 47 .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS, that the City of Elgin, Illinois, supports the
planning and development of a western corridor expressway also
known as the Prairie Parkway as a limited access expressway
connecting Interstate 80 and Interstate 90 .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ELGIN, ILLINOIS, that the City of Elgin, Illinois, supports and
encourages the Illinois Department of Transportation to proceed now
with the preservation of a right-of-way corridor for the Phase Two
or northern portion of the proposed Prairie Parkway between
Interstate 88 and Interstate 90 and that the alignment for such
northern portion of the proposed Prairie Parkway utilize Route 47
north of Lily Lake.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ELGIN, ILLINOIS, that the City of Elgin, Illinois, supports other
reasonable and cost effective mass transit efforts which would
