HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-58 Resolution No. 02-58 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT OF A WESTERN CORRIDOR EXPRESSWAY WHEREAS, the Illinois Department of Transportation has announced a proposal to develop a western corridor expressway also known as the Prairie Parkway; and WHEREAS, the proposed Prairie Parkway is intended to enhance the regional transportation system through the construction of a limited access expressway connecting Interstate 80 to Interstate 90; and WHEREAS, as currently proposed the right-of-way Prairie Parkway project is proceeding in two phases with Phase One consisting of the southern portion of the project from Interstate 80 to Interstate 88 and with Phase Two consisting of the northern portion of the project from Interstate 88 to Interstate 90; and WHEREAS, the Illinois Department of Transportation has begun efforts to preserve a right-of-way corridor for Phase I of the Project from Interstate 80 to Interstate 88; however, the City of Elgin encourages that the planning efforts of the Illinois Department of Transportation also include at this time preserving a right-of-way corridor for Phase Two of the project from Interstate 88 to Interstate 90; and WHEREAS, the City further encourages that the Phase Two portion of the proposed project between Interstate 88 and Interstate 90 should utilize a routing along Route 47 north of Lily Lake in that such an alignment would make use of existing arterial roadway, reduce land acquisition costs, take advantage of the existing interchange at Interstate 90 and relieve north and south traffic concerns already present in the western Elgin and surrounding areas; and WHEREAS, the development of the Prairie Parkway, and specifically the Phase Two portion thereof between Interstate 88 and Interstate 90, will enhance the City of Elgin' s efforts to develop and grow in the western corridor toward Route 47 . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS, that the City of Elgin, Illinois, supports the planning and development of a western corridor expressway also known as the Prairie Parkway as a limited access expressway connecting Interstate 80 and Interstate 90 . BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS, that the City of Elgin, Illinois, supports and encourages the Illinois Department of Transportation to proceed now with the preservation of a right-of-way corridor for the Phase Two or northern portion of the proposed Prairie Parkway between Interstate 88 and Interstate 90 and that the alignment for such northern portion of the proposed Prairie Parkway utilize Route 47 north of Lily Lake.
