Parker, City Manager SUBJECT: Disposition of a Bull Bison and Female Bison to the Little Ponderosa, Winchester, Il . PURPOSE The purpose of this memorandum is to provide the Mayor and members of the City Council with information to consider the disposition of a male bison and a female bison to the Little Ponderosa, Winchester, Il . BACKGROUND Staff has researched population control measures for the Lords Park Zoo. The current over-population of animals makes it necessary to remove selected animals from the herd. This is being done for two reasons : the first, is to maintain blood lines as the daughters and sons of the current are reaching breeding age; the second reason is to maintain the correct number of animals for the pen size. The Parks and Recreation Department has contacted several local public zoos and wildlife sanctuaries that may be interested in our bison and elk. The Little Ponderosa was recommended to us by Earl Wells of the Ft . Wayne Zoo. The Little Ponderosa is a private reserve consisting of 520 acres . Bob Bracket is the owner and in charge of the management of the bison herd and white tail deer herd. These animals will be used for breeding stock. The bison will be transported by the Little Ponderosa at no cost to the city. Mr. Bracket has provided services for Earl Wells at the Ft . Wayne, Indiana Zoo and Jim Anderson at the Alexandria Zoo in Alexandria, Louisiana. These agencies were contacted and provided a positive reference for Mr. Bracket and the Little Ponderosa.
