Regular Council Meeting
A regular meeting of the Council of the City o4 Elg:Ia, Illinois was held in the .
Court Room of the City Hall at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 26, 1960. Mayor Mote
called the meeting to order and roll call was answered by Councilmen Gavelek,
Johnson, Johnston, Shales and Mayor Mote. The Reverend Robert Heicher, pastor of
the Evangelical Covenant Church, gave the invocation.
Councilman Shales made a motion, seconded by Councilman Johnson, to amend the minutes
of the May 12th meeting of the Council regarding "Time Extension for Construction of
Sidewalk Denied" to read:
"The Department of Engineering and Inspection called the attention. of the
Council to the fact that the time extension for the sidewalk bond for 231 S. Melrose
Avenue had expired. Councilman Gavelek made a motion, seconded by Councilman
Johnson, that no further extension be granted."
Yeas: Councilmen Gavelek, Johnson, Johnston, Shales and Mayor Mote. Nays: None. 1
Councilman Gavelek made a motion, seconded by Councilman Johnson, to approve the
minutes of May 12, 1960 as amended. Yeas: Councilmen Gavelek, Johnson, Johnston,
Shales and Mayor Mote. Nays: None.
Councilman Johnston made a motion, seconded by Councilman Gavelek, to approve the
minutes of May 16, 1960 as published. Yeas: Councilmen Gavelek, Johnson, Johnston,
Shales and Mayor Mote. Nays: None.
Ordinance Passed Adopting Supplements to Basic Building Code
Ordinance G-899 amending the Building Code by adopting the accumulative supplements
for 1959, amending the Basic Building Code of 1955 had been introduced, and has
been on file for more than thirty days. Councilman Gavelek made a motion, seconded
byCouncilman Johnston, to pass the ordinance. Yeas: Councilmen Gavelek, Johnson,
Johnston, Shales and Mayor Mote. Nays: None.

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 19 OF THE CITY CODE OF ELGIN, BY ADOPTING
THE ACCUMULATIVE SUPPLEMENT FOR 1959, AMENDING THE BASIC BUILDING CODE,
1955 EDITION THEREOF
WHEREAS, the City of Elgin has heretofore adopted by reference the 1955 edition of
the Basic Building Code, recommended by the Building Officials' Conference of
America, Inc. , and
WHEREAS, certain additions and amendments have been made to the 1955 edition of the
Basic Building Code, recommended by the Building Officials" Conference of America,
Inc, and are set forth in an accumulative supplement for 1959 to the Basic Building
Code, 1955 edition, and
WHEREAS, it is desirable that the City of Elgin adopt such additions and amendments.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ELGIN, ILLINOIS:
Section 1. That Article I of Chapter 19 of the City Code of Elgin be and the same
hereby is amended by inserting, following Section 19-103, entitled, "Amendments to
