AN ORDINANCE
ESTABLISHING FEES AND CHARGES FOR VACATION OF CITY PROPERTY _
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Elgin has determined that it is
necessary and desirable to establish a fee schedule relative to the vacation of City
property.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CI E CITY OF
ELGIN, ILLINOIS:
Section I. That there is hereby established a ee of $670.00 for va 9 ing any
property owned by the City.
Section 2. That the vacation fee as established herein shall be paid by the person
or persons who will acquire title to such property as a result of any vacation. Said fee
shall be fully paid before any plat or other documents effecting such vacation is
recorded.
Section 3. That the vacation fee as established herein shall be in addition to any
charge or price that may be established by the City Council for the value of the property
vacated.
Section 4. That the vacation fee as established herein may be amended, modified
or increased at any time.
Section 5. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its
passage and publication in the manner provided by law.

SUBJECT: Standard Fees for Vacation of City Property
The Engineering Department performs the following tasks when requests
are received for vacating City owned property such as alleys:
1. Field inspections - $ 40.00
2. Write to utility companies 40.00
3. Prepare vacation plat for recording purposes 125.00
4. Write legal description 75.00
5. Prepare sketch and memorandum 75.00
Total $355.00
The costs shown are average estimated costs for time spent by staff,
technicians, and the secretary in the Engineering Division only.

SUBJECT: Standard Fees for Vacation of City Property
Although actual time and expense will vary, the following is an estimate of legal costs
associated with vacating City property:
$150.00 per parcel Title search, if necessary, and if ordered by
legal department. Note: If such a search is
necessary, it should be ordered by
engineering.
$50.00 Review of property status and plats of
vacation. (1.5 hrs.)
$15.00 Draft and type resolution. (.5 hrs.)
$100.00 Cook County/$50.00 Kane County Recording, if done by legal department,
includes travel expense, time and recording
fee for one plat.
Total $265.00 - 315.00/per parcel
