Re: Greater Downtown Elgin Commission
Dear Mayor and City Council:.
At its December 5 meeting, the members of the Greater- Down-
town Elgin Commission voted unanimously to recommend that the
Commission be dissolved by repealing Chapter 3.28 of. the
Elgin Municipal Code. The membership reached this decision
after considerable discussion about the future role of the
Commission. There was general agreement that with the adop-
tion of the Center City Master Plan and the consequent forma-
tion of the Center City Development Corporation, that there l
would exist a redundancy of responsibilities. It is antici-
pated
M.^ d
that many of the issues addressed by the Commission
will also be considered by the Corporation. The Commission
members foresee this as inevitable given the role assigned to
the Corporation in Center City revitalization efforts . The
Commission members feel that it would be logical for those
duties of the Greater Downtown Elgin Commission to bereas-
signed. The members would join the efforts of Center City
revitalization by offering to work with the Corporation and
its Committees .
Onbehalf of the Commission members, I wish to thank the City
Council for the opportunity to servethe community. It has
been a pleasurable experience for all of us . Over the years,
the membership has appreciated the Council ' s support. Now
the Commission respectfully requests that the Council accept
the re \ommendation presented.
Thank yqu.
