Imaje Awards Criteria
Criteria for the Image Awards: Applicants must demonstrate that their nominee has made
a substantial contribution to the improvement of Elgin's image. Please note the categories
below are used as a guide.The Image Commission reserves the right to give out awards
at their discretion.Awards may or may not be given out in each category.
Individual/Professional—Applicants must demonstrate that their individual nominee
has made a significant contribution to the improvement of Elgin's image as a
professional.
IndividuaWolunteer—Applicants must demonstrate that their individual nominee has
made a significant contribution to the improvement of Elgin's image as a volunteer.
Projects—Applicants may nominate a specific community project that has helped
improve Elgin's image over the last year.
Organizations/Businesses—Applicants may nominate an organization or business that
has helped significantly improve Elgin's image.
Citizenship Award —This award is designed to recognize individuals whose outstanding
activities and efforts exemplify the meaning of citizenship.
Other considerations:
I. Previous award winners can be nominated, providing five consecutive years have
lapsed since receiving an Image Award.
2.A City employee may be nominated as long as the area of nomination is outside the
realm of his/her city position.
3. An organization or facility which receives City funding is eligible.The nomination
must be in the name of the organization or facility.
4. Family members of commissioners are not eligible.

Judging Guidelines
Suggestions for Judging:
Please come prepared to discuss your picks with the group. The discussion/question/answer
portion of the judging is essential to making an informed decision. Feel free to ask questions or
add information about any of the nominees at that time.
• First and foremost, of each nominee ask: What has been the level of impact to the City's
image both internally and externally?
• Does the presentation of this award further the mission statement and duties of the
Image Commission?
• Will the presentation of this award inspire other people's efforts and how will it reflect on
the Commission?
• Are the Image Awards appropriate for this nominee, or should their efforts be better
honored by a Humanitarian Award:
Rules
• The award can not be given to the same winner (see attached sheet) within five
consecutive years (revised 10/03)

people serve on various event or program committees which are eligible.
• Immediate family members of Image Advisory Commissioners are not eligible (revised

Image Advisory Commission Mission Statement:
Provide the City Council and staff with recommendations regarding initiatives that impact and work to
improve that image both within and outside the community.

Commissioner Justyn Miller seconded. Motion passed 7-0.
• Commissioner Justyn Miller moved to approve the December meeting minutes.
Commissioner Michael Murschel seconded. Motion passed 7-0.
• Commisioner Richard Sherman moved to approve Commissioner Mark Smith to join
the meeting via phone. Commissioner Matt Iverson seconded. Motion passed 7-0.

performance arts center. Meeting date to be determined.
