HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990ELGIN IMAGE ADVISORY TASK FORCE MINUTES July 23, 1990 MEMBERS PRESENT: Kathy Ward, Betty Reed, Kevin Kelly, Jack Missele, Paul Galka, Mark Clemens STAFF: Dave Osborn MEMBERS ABSENT: Pio Caracheo, Joe Wars, Cynthia Cherry - Schnif, Don Brosnan, Alan Walters Meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. followed by the install- ation of new member, Kevin Kelly. A letter from Larry Rice regarding concern over the improvements to the Metra Station at Chicago was shared with us by Paul. Betty will check into Park Districts in other communities. Sign Ordinance - Recommended that the City Council look at Sign usage in regards to Liquor and Cigarette advertisement off premises. School Dist. U46 - Discussion on what assistance if any our commission can give our school district. Rt. 19 - Entry way sign: Weeds are overgrown. Site is not being kept up. Jack volunteered to write a letter to the responsible party. Vacant Buildings - How can the city take a more aggressive role with vacant buildings? They are an eyesore and an embarrass- ment to our city. Examples of possibilities: 1. Stronger steps; landlords fined 2. Low - interest loans for specified sites to encourage purchase & use. Woodruff & Edwards - Regarding Final plans, Jack will contact Bob Malm. Kevin & Dave will coordinate a route for the August trip through Elgin. 23 -2- Elgin Image Advisory Task Force Minutes July 23, 1990 Time Capsule - Mark brought up a future project that could involve the entire residential & commercial population of Elgin. Beautification Crew - Dave updated commission on the crew's next project. Paul will look into why Pio Caracheo and Jerry Adler have been absent so often. Adjourned - Mark Clemens, Kevin Kelly Next Meeting, Monday August 27th, starting at 7 p.m. with a tour of Elgin. Kathy Ward A Elgin Image Advisory Board Meeting Minutes October 22, 1990 7:30 p.m. 31 Fountain Square Plaza THERE WAS NO QUORUM - THE FOLLOWING IS FOR INFORMATION ONLY MEMBERS PRESENT: Barb Weidner, Don Brosnan, Kathy Ward, Kevin Kelly MEMBERS ABSENT: Joseph Wars, Paul Galka, Jack Missele, Jerold Adler, Cynthia Cherry - Schif, Mark Clemens STAFF PRESENT: Dave Osborn Image Award: October's award was given to Gifford Park for their gazebo. Gazebo dedicated by Gifford Park to the memory of Al Berg. Rich Hirschberg of Jones Intercable: "Gangs & Graffiti " - Rich has been working with the Police Department on Gangs & Graffiti. Rich has put together a tape which is being aired on Jones Intercable and he left a copy for our members to review. Traffic Signals: North to south lights through Elgin are not timed. Street Repairs: Engineering Dept. told Dave they have a master plan on repairs in Elgin. St. Charles St.: Trees that were cut to move the homes from Garfield to George street. Civic Pride Letter: Kevin Kelly will bring a rough draft to the next meeting. Elgin Image Advisory Commission January 28, 1991 7:30 p.m. 31 Fountain Square Plaza Present: Paul Galka, Kathy Ward, Cynthia Cherry- Schif, Jerry Adler, Joe Wars, Jack Missele, Mark Clemens, Barbara Weidner, and Kevin Kelly. Excused: Dave Osborn (staff) MINUTES: There were no minutes from the last meeting CENTER CITY: Deborah Nier, staff liasion with the Center City Group, presented an overview of the downtown plan as put together by the Center City Group. COUNCIL LETTER: Paul passed out copies of a letter sent to the City Council and Mayor. NEW BUSINESS: The question was raised as to what type of help is offered from City Hall for expanding and new businesses. Also, it was suggested that each member of this commission express their feelings about the Downtown Center City Plan to the City Council and Mayor.
