Cmmr. Picnic; Moellerprovided a brief summary regarding the Patriot Act resolutwn_
Count. Bicanic-Moeller suggested that the Commission hold a public hearing to educate
the cnnununity.
Cmmr. Scott Ihankod Cf hour. Blear nic-Moeller for involvement In keeping the
Commission informed about the Patriot Act.
Chair Scott mentioned Ihat all must be in agreement to present any Ideas to the City
Cubit or to hold a public hearing.
There was much discussion regarding how to proceed with obtaining the rornmunity of
the Patriot Act. After the discussion, the Conunission agreed that e dlnloy neads to take
place with the community. Cmmr. Bicanic-Moeller will contact a representative from the
JUstico Depart ronl and the ACLU to inquiro if u representative would he available to
:dread a public forum.
Cmmr. BicanlcMoeller indicated that she would contact Evanston to find out how they
addressed this issue and came up with their resolution
Coolant; Pickens made the motion, seconded by Cmmr. Novotny to give Cmmr. Bicanic-
Moeller the authority to move tonw rd to make contact with reprosentatives front the
Justice Department and the ACLU to set up or community forum with a date and time
mid to Investigate what steps the other cwmnund es under went to yet their correlations
approved and to report back at the October meeting. l he mmiun carried.
Cmmr. Novotny brought up the issue of the Rule of Three. He indicated that he did not
agree with the Rule of Three practice.
The Rule of Three will be discussed ne the October meeting.
The Commission asked that Femi Folarin be asked to attend the. October mnefing.
