Elgin Heritage Commission
April 5, 2016
Minutes
The meeting of the Elgin Heritage Commission was called to order at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers by Chairman
John Wiedmeyer.
Members Present: George Rowe, Judith Van Dusen, Scott Savel, Steve Thoren, Rebecca Hunter, and John Wiedmeyer
Members Absent: Tom Krebsbach, Elizabeth Femal, Judith
Rivera
Others Present: Betsy Couture
City Staff Present: Christen Sundquist, Historic Preservation Planner
Approval of Minutes:
A motion was made by Commissioner Savel to approve
the March 1, 2016 minutes. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Thoren.
The motion passed 6-0.
Recognize Persons Present: Betsy Couture, Downtown Neighborhood Association – Design
Committee representative
Plaque applications:
442 Du Page Street – The plaque nomination received the following average scores: Historic Significance 8.83; Architectural Significance:
8.00; Current Maintenance: 9.17.
A motion was made by Commissioner Thoren to approve awarding the plaque for the property with the inscription that would read O. & H. Hinsdell (abbreviated
for Oliver and Harriet Hinsdell), 1888.
The motion was seconded by Commissioner Van Dusen.
The motion passed 6-0.
1136 Bellevue Avenue – Chairman Wiedmeyer commented that he’d like to
see more genealogical information regarding the original owners. Commissioner Van Dusen stated that she’d be happy to help Commissioner Hunter find that information. Chairman Wiedmeyer
noted that there is still enough content in the plaque nomination to vote tonight but would like the additional materials sent to Staff prior to the Mayor’s Awards. The plaque nomination
received the following average scores:
Historic Significance 6.8; Architectural Significance: 8.0; Current Maintenance: 7.4.
A motion was made by Commissioner Rowe to approve awarding
the plaque for the property with the inscription that would read A. & E. Geldmacher (abbreviated for August and Eliza Geldmacher), 1915.
The motion was seconded by Commissioner Thoren.
