The current front door is not original to the building. The new front door will be wood with four panels, round top and no window. Elgin Design Guideline Manual Specifications: Doors and Door Features A. should be replaced with new doors appropriate for the style and period of the dwelling. Replacement doors should be similar in design to the original in style, glazing (type of glass and area) and lights (pane configuration). Wood or solid core fiberglass is acceptable materials for use in replacement doors. B. should be constructed of solid wood panels, such as the four-panel Homestead or Italianate design may be used on the front if appropriate to the style of the house. C. should not be removed or altered. The original size of the door opening should not be enlarged, reduced, or shortened in height. Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends approval of the COA with the following condition: The new door shall match the existing opening size. Jose Escamilla(owner)was in attendance at tonight's meeting. Julio Valentine translated information to the homeowner:and from the homeowner to the commissioners. Stroud: Door on "G2" (CCR040R) is proposed. Will it match the opening? Julio Valentine (translator): Owner would like to have the front door be fiberglass, not wood. Stroud: COA submitted is for a wood door. Millikan: Guidelines (section A) indicates either wood or solid core fiberglass is acceptable materials for replacement. Miller: Why is the door being replaced and not repaired? Valentine (translator): Homeowner states the door is coming apart. Valentine (contractor): I have checked the door before, there is patching on the existing door. Briska: Door is rotting away. You can see the deterioration from the street. Miller: Round top door is hard to fit. Stroud: For clarification, the door style would be the same; only the material would be changed from wood to solid core fiberglass. Valentine (translator): Correct. Couture: If replacing the door, would recommend/suggest the removal of the flat awning over the entrance. Wiedmeyer: Rather see it with old molding/trim being reinstalled.
