THE CENTRE OF E L G I N The Centre Advisory Board Meeting Thursday, February 10, 2011 6:00 p.m. Present: Suzanne Smith, Karyn Garcia, Jack Roder, Fred Brach, Ed Sayre Staff: Wayne Carlstedt, Amy Knorek Absent: Charles Horton, Siobhan Cottone, Mike Warren I. Suzanne Smith called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. II. Fred Brach motioned for approval of the minutes of the November 2010 meeting. Ed Sayre seconded. Minutes were approved as written. III. New Business A. Ron Anderson, Health/Fitness Supervisor attended the meeting and gave his background info to the board. Ron is certified to personal train and instruct group fitness classes. He discussed his new ideas and opportunities for growth in the fitness division which include: featuring our trainers on FB and website, conducting "Pit Stops" or quick assessments, fitness orientations with members. BocaJump conducted an interview with Ron as well that was posted on their site marketing our fitness floor and group fitness classes. B. Senior Group Fitness Rate - Staff were asked to look into other facilities group fitness rates for seniors. At this time, our senior rate for GF is 50 years old and they get a lower rate than our regular GF rate. Staff will look into the age breakdown at other facilities. C. Tanning Room - Staff are looking into other options for the current tanning room. Possible second massage studio. The board agreed that tanning is not healthy and should be on the way out. Ron suggested if second room is an option to hold free seminars on the importance of massage for the body and having current therapist market business with giving chair massages at different times in the group fitness and main floor areas. Suzanne suggested that communication is hard in the facility between departments and it was suggested to start email lists for group fitness sharing info. E. Fitness Marketing - 1. Ron and staff will begin looking into holding classes in Festival Park this summer - FREE - hand out info on classes at The Centre. Capture email addresses. 2. Began giving out 3 GF punch cards to all current members and new members to try out our classes. 3. Current classes will be evaluated and new classes will be looked into putting on the schedule for the Spring group fitness session. F. Running/Training Club - Ron was working with one of our GF instructors to include a running club to help those participating in the Fox Trot - "Couch to 5K". The class would meet indoors until the weather improved - most likely Sunday mornings. C. Monthly P & L Statement - No statements to review, however, staff shared that January revenue was $283,000 which is one of the highest monthly totals since the opening of the facility. VI.
