Justin is currently an officer and started on 10/25/16. Commander Lalley discussed wanting to extend probation for Justin for a couple of reason. The first and most important reason was that Justin is currently in the reserves and has been gone over an extended period time during his training. The second reason is that he has had some performance issues. The third reason is that he has shown that he is not adapting as well as he could with the other officers. Commissioner Wooten asked what the department hoped to gain by extending his probation. Deputy Chief Wolf said that his performance was not at a level yet that warranted a consideration for termination. With training the department believes he would be able to overcome some of the issues he is having. Being gone for the amount of time due to military deployment it has not allowed him the same amount of time as other officers in the field. Commissioner Wooten asked when he took the military leave and Deputy Chief Wolf explain that it was taken in May. Commissioner Fernandez asked about the training he has had and Deputy Chief Wolf detailed the different types of training and how much of each he has had. There was discussion on whether Officer Gist knew about the possible extension to probation and Commander Lalley said that he was aware of the possible extension and the deficiencies that he had. Commander Lalley felt that Officer Gist biggest concern is that he was over confident in his ability, but was working to address those issues. r Commissioner Wooten made the motion, seconded by Commissioner Fernandez to return to open session at 5:37 p.m. Respectfully Submitted, Tim Bennett Staff Liaison r r
