BICYCLE&PEDESTRIAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes
April 8, 2014
6:00 p.m.
The Centre—West Conference Room
Present: Karen Erickson, Tom Armstrong, Wayne Heinmiller, Scott Magee, Chris Manheim,Jerry
Turnquist
Staff: Robert Soberano (Police)
Absent: Darin Anderson, Dave Waden (Planning/Parks & Recreation), Ron Rudd (Engineering)
Call to Order: Chair Erickson called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m.
Approval of Minutes: No minutes to consider.
Citizen's Forum: None
Bicycle Route 1 &4: No update.
Riverfront Promenade: The project is nearing completion.The committee agreed that there should be
some sort of ceremony in May to alert the cycling community and other users that the Fox River Trail is
once again open through downtown Elgin.
Bicycle Friendly Community Application: The committee agreed to meet for a special work session
meeting to begin work on the application.The meeting is scheduled for April 22"d at 6 p.m. at the Gail
Borden Public Library.
National Bike Month:The committee discussed a calendar of events to celebrate National Bike Month,
including the Mayor reading a proclamation, Bike to School Day, Bike to Work Week and Day,
CycloFemme Ride, Riverfront Promenade ribbon cutting, and the Elgin Cycling Classic races.
Bike.Walk.Move: Elgin Week 2014:The committee reviewed the draft schedule for Bike.Walk.Move:
Elgin Week.The week includes a full schedule of cycling and walking activities.
Fox River Trail: Heinmiller reported that the Kane County Forest Preserve District is exploringrerouting
the trail and tunneling under the elevated railroad tracks to circumvent the washed out section near
Poplar Creek and the Fox River.
Next Meeting:The next regular meeting of the BPAC is scheduled for Tuesday, May 6th at 6:00 p.m. in
the West Conference Room of The Centre.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 7:03 p.m.
