RESOLUTION
APPROVING CHANGE ORDER NO. 2 IN THE CONTRACT WITH
CARPET ONE INTERIORS FOR FIRE STATION NO. 6
WHEREAS,the City of Elgin has heretofore entered into a contract with Carpet One Interiors
for construction of Fire Station No. 6; and
WHEREAS,it is necessary and desirable to modify the terms of the contract as is described
in Change Order No. 2, attached hereto.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ELGIN,ILLINOIS,that Olufemi Folarin,City Manager,be and is hereby authorized and directed to
execute Change Order No.2,a copy of which is attached hereto and made a part hereof by reference.

SUBJECT: Change Order#2 and Final for Carpet One Interiors for Fire Station 6
PURPOSE
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide the Mayor and members of the City Council with
information to approve payment for a final change order to Carpet One Interiors for work
performed at Fire Station 6.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council approve the payment for a change order to Carpet One
Interiors for the construction of Fire Station 6 in the amount of$2,189.13
BACKGROUND
Carpet One Interiors was awarded the bid for installing ceramic tile in Fire Station 6. The
contract totaled $17,245.54. During the installation, the Fire Department determined that it
would be more cost effective to install ceramic tile flooring in additional high-traffic areas of
Fire Station 6 that were originally planned to be carpeted. The additional cost for installing
ceramic tile at these locations is less than the expected replacement costs for carpet in the high-
traffic areas. A final change order in the amount of $2,189.13 was submitted by Carpet One
Interiors for the installation of ceramic tile in the high-traffic areas where carpeting was
originally bid.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
The total cost of this change order to Carpet One Interiors equals $2,189.13. The total budget for
this project is $3.77 million with approximately$3.57 million spent and encumbered to date. The
awarding of the carpeting bid (917) was the final bid package for the construction of Fire Station
6. There are sufficient funds available ($156,445) in account number 396-1000-795.92-36 (1996
G.O. Bond Project),project number 289505 (Fire Station 6)to pay for this change order.
