Rice, City Manager SUBJECT: Shiloh Avenue Resurfacing Project PURPOSE: This memorandum will provide the Mayor and Council with information to consider approval of Change Order Number 1 for the subject project. BACKGROUND: The City Council awarded the subject project to eft. Central Blacktop of South Elgin on September 12, 1990. The project included resurfacing Shiloh Avenue, paving the access drive and miscellaneous concrete work at the Lord's Park Museum and paving a pathway through the Lord's Park Zoo. The engineer's estimate for the work within the zoo indicated that there would not be sufficient funds available to complete the entire pathway. Therefore, the contract quantities only included enough materials to pave approximately half of the path. Because the costs submitted by Central Blacktop were lower than anticipated, Central Blacktop was requested to pave the entire pathway (see the attached sketch) . The cost to do the work at a later date would have been significantly greater because it would have required a contractor to move in equipment to pave this small portion only which then would probably not be part of a larger project. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The additional work at the Lord's Park Zoo was completed at an additional cost to the contract of $7, 119.90 (see the attached change order) . There are sufficient funds available within the "Parks Maintenance Capital Budget (082-983-9933) to cover the cost of the additional paving. ►^ r PATHWAYS & AREAS TO BE PAVED PPv /tP4°# 1•. •• rbk cko • i s 10•± //Oy 4. a. z NO SCALE_ r laJ DETAIL NO. 2
